Advancements and reflections on the implementation of seismic isolation technology in rural buildings

Earthquakes are very common, and once they occur, they cause economic losses and casualties. To advance earthquake resistance and disaster mitigation, isolation is employed to decouple the transmission of seismic energy within structures, thereby reducing their response during seismic events. This article provides an overview of the research progress on building isolation technology in rural areas. Materials such as graphite, sand, and talcum powder can be used as sliding materials for sliding friction isolation systems. Due to their easy availability, low cost, and high economic benefits, these materials are excellent choices for seismic isolation structure design in rural buildings. Composite isolation technology utilizes the advantages of two or more different isolation methods, making it suitable for applications with high seismic requirements, but attention should still be paid to the limit and reciprocating issues of isolation devices. Combined with the use of seismic isolation structures in engineering, it performs well in earthquakes and causes minimal damage; Therefore, implementing isolation technology and strengthening existing structures in earthquake active areas is an effective method.
