<p>Weed interference poses a significant threat to maize (<i>Zea mays</i> L.) productivity, resulting in substantial yield loss without adequate weed management. This field study conducted in Varanasi, India during the rainy seasons of 2022 and 2023. The objective was to evaluate the efficacy of post-emergence directed applications of dimethenamid-P 720&#xa0;g/L EC in managing weeds in maize under rainfed conditions. Dimethenamid-P at 670&#xa0;g a.i./ha significantly reduced total weed density of dominant species viz.,<i> Echinochloa colona</i>, <i>Cyperus rotundus</i>, and <i>Commelina benghalensis</i>. It also recorded the highest weed control efficiency (82.54–93.09%) and the lowest weed index (5.13%) amongst tested herbicides. The effective weed management by dimethenamid-P at 670&#xa0;g a.i./ha resulted in higher maize dry matter accumulation, crop growth rate, and higher grain and stover yields, which were increased by 51.8% and 38.5%, respectively, compared to untreated control. The maize nutrient uptake (NPK) in both grain and stover also significantly increased. Demonstrating the potential of dimethenamid-P as a promising post-emergence herbicide for effective weed management in maize.</p>
