Molecular markers, marker assisted selection for rice in relation to biotic and abiotic stress
摘要
During last several decades, cultivation of stress tolerant crop varieties has expanded crop production in the stress prone areas. Crop cultivars resistant toabiotic (heat, cold, salinity, drought, submergence) and biotic (diseases and insects) stressesare a key tool to ensure food security, which also improve farmers’ income and livelihood. Nonetheless, development of stress tolerant cultivars always remains a big challenge to plant breeders. Steadily increased world production, decreasing cultivable lands, increasing saline, drought, submergence prone areas and meal consumption for last decades indicated that stress tolerance crops significantly contributing in agricultural production. Now a day, breeders are always try to introducing new technologies for their research which are cost effective and innovative for improving crop breeding. Development of a new stress tolerance in crop varieties using conventional breeding method is time consuming and labor intensive also. Usually this method takes huge space in control conditioned glass house, greenhouse and research fieldfor evaluation. For avoiding these constraints a successful molecular breeding approach can be effective and suitable for evaluatedin the field to develop a variety. Use of molecular marker, marker-assisted selection, mapping quantitative trait loci (QTLs), and identification of a major gene locus, related with stress tolerance preferable for plant breeders to efficiently selection plant progeny lines and appropriate understanding the desired traits relating to abiotic and biotic stress tolerance at plant development, such as, seedling, vegetative and reproductive growth stages. Combination of high-throughput molecular breedingapproaches with traditional breeding isvery much effective and also efficient to introducetarget quantitative traits in plants. Therefore, it is important to understand the advance breeding techniques that is the perfect way of crop geneticists viewed in plant breeding objectives. The traits of interest are controlling by the individual gene(s) which can identifiedby genomic approaches. This review focuses on mapping QTL, developing molecular marker related with biotic and abiotic stress tolerance combining with analysis, and identifying tolerant genotypes especially in rice.
