<p>Part&#xa0;3 of the series of articles on connecting the next generation of physicians and research in general practice (GP) focuses on teaching scientific skills in general practice education. The ideas presented here are based on expert discussions at several meetings during the 2023 DEGAM Congress (German Society for General Practice/Family Medicine) and the DESAM-ForNet research symposium (Initiative of German Practice-Based Research Networks). The results were documented, discussed and prepared in writing. General medicine as a&#xa0;research-based discipline: students are made aware of general medicine as a&#xa0;research-based, living discipline that offers the possibility of a&#xa0;permanent connection to a&#xa0;university from practice. Through role models in research-driven GP practices, prospective physicians experience that research is an attractive and integral part of GP work. Research benefits from more MD (Medicinae Doctor) theses in general practices and the competencies, enthusiasm, and ideas of future physicians. Existing teaching programmes and new impulses: This article deals with the structural resources and existing general medical teaching programmes that serve to impart scientific skills during medical studies. There are a&#xa0;variety of formats, both mandatory and optional. Innovative approaches such as the networking of several institutes of general practice via a&#xa0;common online platform for relevant teaching content or a&#xa0;transregional MD exchange forum could be a&#xa0;useful addition to strengthen general medical research and support the next generation, while promoting nationwide networking. Structural considerations include a&#xa0;closer integration of teaching and research at the institutes and bringing together students, medical assistants, researchers, and general practitioners in joint formats (e.g., further education, qualification, training, workshops).</p>
