摘要

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic profoundly changed lives and highlighted the role of policy makers in healthcare. General practitioners were at the front line and had to react quickly to political decisions. They were confronted with conflicting goals, such as the need to break chains of infection and the simultaneous isolation of patients. The article discusses lessons from a political science perspective on the pandemic: general practitioners should be more closely involved in political decisions; clear and consistent communication is crucial; a strong healthcare system is essential; psychological stress must be given greater consideration; and prevention and health education are essential. The pandemic shows the importance of close cooperation between policy makers, the healthcare system, and the general public.
