Das hustende Kind
摘要
Coughing is part of the physiological cleansing function of the bronchi and lungs. Various noxae can lead to an increased cough. In childhood, banal viral respiratory infections are the most common cause of increased coughing. Depending on the defining characteristics of the cough, certain differential diagnostic considerations come into question (e.g. pneumonia, bronchial asthma, aspiration). The result of the primary diagnostics (medical history, physical examination) and the course determine further diagnostics. Most respiratory infections in children only require symptomatic therapy and information for the parents about the spontaneous healing process. The physical examination serves to rule out complicated courses. For these courses, specific medications (e.g., antibiotics, bronchospasmolytics) are available.
