Planetary Health Diet – geeignet für Menschen mit Typ-2-Diabetes?
摘要
Food production accounts for around 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The Planetary Health Diet (PHD) developed by the EAT-Lancet Commission in 2019 is an attempt to meet the requirements of individual and planetary health in a globally applicable nutritional concept. The diet is rich in whole foods and low in animal and processed products. In Germany, the incidence and prevalence of type 2 diabetes (DM2) is high. Lifestyle interventions in nutrition that share many principles with the PHD can affect the occurrence and course of the disease.
ObjectiveTo investigate whether the PHD is suitable as a possible dietary recommendation for type 2 diabetes.
MethodsFor our pragmatic review, a focused literature search was conducted in PubMed and Google Scholar for reviews pertaining to dietary recommendations for type 2 diabetes and the exact composition of the PHD. Based on this literature, the PHD was analyzed for its compatibility with dietary recommendations for type 2 diabetes.
ResultsA dietary shift towards the PHD appears to be appropriate for patients with DM2, taking into account possible pitfalls such as protein or calcium deficiency.
ConclusionPlant-based, balanced diets are beneficial for both health and climate. In this regard, general practitioners may act as valuable multipliers, while nutritional counseling can additionally be helpful. The PHD can provide guidance for implementing dietary changes in patients with DM2. Still, more research is needed on the specific application and possibilities of broad implementation in practice.
