摘要

Cases of domestic violence are increasing every year. Women are particularly affected by this. Germany ratified the “Istanbul Convention” on violence against women and domestic violence in 2017 and has committed itself to a broad fight against violence against women. This also includes further training for professional groups who come into contact with victims and perpetrators of violence. As general practitioners (GPs) are often the first point of contact, they should be aware of red flags for domestic violence. Addressing their own suspicions requires good communication with those affected, their environment, and within the team. GPs provide the victim with all the necessary information and carry out legally admissible documentation. The victim themselves sets the direction and also the pace. It is helpful to develop a clear procedure for the GP practice that the entire team is familiar with. The only sensible prevention is to work with perpetrators and people who are concerned about becoming perpetrators.
