Sudan faces severe medicine shortages, exacerbated by ongoing conflict, economic instability, and an overreliance on pharmaceutical imports. Strengthening local pharmaceutical manufacturing is a critical strategy to improve medicine availability, reduce dependency on foreign suppliers, and enhance healthcare resilience. This review assesses the extent of medicine shortages in post-war Sudan, evaluates the capacity of local manufacturers, identifies key challenges, and proposes strategic policy interventions to revitalize the domestic pharmaceutical industry. Addressing financial, regulatory, and infrastructural barriers will be essential to achieving pharmaceutical self-sufficiency and ensuring sustainable access to essential medicines.
