Analyzing the barriers to career trajectory development among female graduates in Morocco: A Qualitative Study
摘要
This study examines the persistent gap between women’s educational attainment and their labor market integration in Morocco. Despite significant progress in access to higher education, female graduates continue to face high unemployment, inactivity, and precarious employment. While existing research has largely relied on quantitative indicators, this study adopts a qualitative approach to explore how women experience and navigate the transition from higher education to employment several years after graduation. Based on 30 semi-structured interviews, the findings reveal that the challenge is not primarily a lack of skills or motivation, but structural and relational constraints that limit the effective conversion of educational capital into stable professional positions. Barriers emerge across domestic, normative, and institutional spheres, shaping differentiated career trajectories ranging from stable integration to precarity or withdrawal. At the same time, participants express strong motivations rooted in autonomy, recognition, and long-term security, highlighting structured agency within constrained contexts. By foregrounding lived experiences, this study helps bridge the qualitative gap in Moroccan labor market research and calls for more integrated policy approaches that address both labor market structures and gendered domestic arrangements.
