SWOT strategies to shift a distance mode teacher education programme from traditional to blended learning
摘要
This study aimed to develop strategies to transform the Bangladesh Open University’s (BOU) traditional teacher education into blended learning. The Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis framework was used to develop these strategies. A mixed-methods research design was implemented. A cross-sectional survey using a questionnaire was used to collect quantitative data from 145 randomly selected teacher educators. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs). Six semi-structured interviews were conducted with six purposively selected policymakers, and four FGDs were conducted with nineteen purposively selected teacher educators. The findings identified 26 SWOT themes: 7 strengths, 6 weaknesses, 7 opportunities, and 6 threats. Based on these themes, 11 SWOT strategies were developed to transform BOU’s current teacher education programmes into blended learning. The study recommended that BOU implement blended learning in its teacher education programmes as a paradigm shift by following these SWOT strategies.
