摘要

The research examines the issues and barriers to integrating the History of Architecture theory course with the Architectural Design Studio. An instrument was created to analyse the perception of stakeholders in architecture education, namely, students, teaching faculty and practising architects, to quantify the relationship of issues and barriers in the integration of the History of Architecture theory course in the Architectural Design Studio. An empirical study was designed for the same, and a survey questionnaire was floated online through Google Forms using the purposive sampling technique. 37 items were created under 6 sub-heads: notional issues, skill-related issues, teacher-related issues, teaching methodology-related issues, psychological issues and curriculum-related issues. This is original research on the subject of Architectural Design and the History of Architecture. Results revealed that the issues and barriers to the integration of History of Architecture in Architectural Design Studio can be categorized under 6 factors of history notion, language barrier, teacher-related issues, learning anew issues, teaching methodology issues, and curriculum-related issues, which were in concurrence with the prior assumptions of the authors. The research explores integrating historical knowledge in the architectural design studio pan-India, with a focus on North India. A separate analysis of each stakeholder category could provide deeper insights. Extending the study further towards a global perspective would help in bringing the cross-cultural context into the study and add more relevance for the global context.
