A preliminary study on the diffusion and evolution of spiral caissons in architectural heritages along the southeastern coast of China
摘要
Spiral caisson (spiral tsao-ching) is a special type of dome-like caisson in Chinese traditional architecture, mainly found in palaces, temples, and theater stages in the southeastern coastal regions of China. This article, based on systematic investigation and research of over a hundred existing sites, sorts out its distribution characteristics from a spatio - temporal perspective, and provides an overview of the basic features of this architectural heritage. Approximately 54% of the existing sites are located in Zhejiang Province, 34% in Fujian Province, and the rest scattered in other provinces in eastern China. This study is the first to systematically sort out spiral caissons, summarize their main historical types, and fill the long-standing research gaps in related fields.
