<p>The purpose of this study is to describe the the spatial planning of South Denpasar city based on local culture and Balinese traditional architecture principles as stated in the urban spatial planning documents developed by the city leaders. The study uses a qualitative approach, with a combination of two methods, content analysis and descriptive qualitative. Content analysis is carried out on the Regional Spatial Plan (RSP) or <i>Rencana Tata Ruang Wilayah (RTRW)</i> and Detailed Spatial Plan (DSP) or <i>Rencana Detail Tata Ruang (RDTR</i>) documents. Descriptive qualitative method used field observation techniques followed by qualitative interpretive data analysis techniques. The results of the content analysis show that the <i>RDTR</i> has not regulated the cosmic balance concept (<i>Tribhuana-Triangga-Triloka)</i>, applied the opposing components concept (<i>Rwabhineda)</i> in <i>Natah</i> and <i>Lebuh</i>, while the <i>RTRW</i> has not regulated the balance of the cosmos based on the <i>Tri Hita Karana</i> and the <i>Tribhuana-Triangga-Triloka philosophy</i>. The result of qualitative field observation describes the traditional village/pakraman area has become a kind of enclave that strengthens the identity of the place and the image of the contemporary South Denpasar city based on local culture and traditional Balinese architecture. The <i>Pempatan Agung Bajra Sandhi</i> area has a new function and meaning. This research concluded that the richness and wisdom of local culture and traditional architecture should serve as inspiration, basis, and criteria for the development of contemporary spatial planning; the Regional Spatial Plan and Detailed Spatial Plan documents and other city planning regulations, should provide a comprehensive place for contemporary city spatial arrangements based on local culture and traditional architecture, so that they become parameters for city development; and also city planning and development must be consistently implemented, taking into account city spatial regulations based on local culture and traditional architecture.</p>
