Sustainable practices and resource reconfiguration drive firm performance insights from PLS-SEM and fsQCA
摘要
In the era of technological innovation, firms in all manufacturing industries have been heavily examined in terms of firm performance during disruptive events. On the basis of the resource-based theory of organizations and current studies on firm performance, this paper connects reconfiguring resources and sustainable operations in combination to achieve a high level of firm performance. This study aims to develop a conceptual framework linking resource reconfiguration (RRE), sustainability practices (SPR), and firm performance (FP). The study explores the linkage between resource reconfigurations and sustainable firm practices to increase FP via a partial least squares structural equation model (PLS-SEM) through hypothesis testing. It also produces sufficient configurations of causal paths on the basis of complexity theory, which leads to particular outcomes via fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). The study provides empirical validation that four hypotheses are supported by the PLS‒SEM method and that five sufficient configurations are identified as a core solution for achieving high FPs. The core contribution of this study is that employing sustainable resources and practices for establishing and exploring new operational activities and resources strengthens an enterprise’s capacity to manage disruptive events and react quickly.
