Developing and validating a multidimensional measure of psychological flourishing integrating cultural and spiritual dimensions
摘要
This study aims to develop and validate an indigenous measure of psychological flourishing tailored to Pakistan's cultural and spiritual context. Existing flourishing scales often reflect Western individualistic perspectives, overlooking critical dimensions such as spirituality and communal interdependence. The newly developed psychological flourishing measure (PFM) encompasses four culturally relevant domains: Life Purpose, Life Engagement, Social Support, and Spiritual Fulfillment. The scale was developed through expert review and content validation, followed by exploratory factor analysis on a sample of 250 adults, which supported a four-factor solution. Confirmatory factor analysis on a separate sample of 531 participants showed good fit indices, and factor loadings were above the acceptable threshold. Internal consistency was strong across all subscales. Convergent validity was established through positive correlations with the PERMA-Profiler, while discriminant validity was established through a significantly negative relationship with the DASS-21. The PFM offers a valid, reliable, and culturally grounded tool for assessing flourishing in collectivistic and faith-based populations. This culturally grounded measure may enhance research and intervention on well-being in faith-based populations.
