<p>Dental treatment of children under general anesthesia is often the last resort for causal treatment of oral diseases after all alternative procedures have been exhausted. The dental and anesthesiology teams work closely together, and both disciplines must adhere to their respective quality standards. In principle, all dental treatments can be performed with careful prior planning and consideration of the time required. Children who are generally healthy are usually treated on an outpatient basis in specialized private practices and clinics. Children with an increased anesthesia risk or predisposing general medical conditions require a clinical environment with specialized departments of anes-thesiology, pediatrics, and pediatric dentistry to provide dental care under general anesthesia. The capacities of these centers are often limited, which can result in long waiting times for affected patients.</p>
