<p>In recent decades, numerous new crown systems for primary teeth have been introduced. In this context, various types of crowns for primary teeth are presented and compared in this article. Fully fabricated steel crowns have been proven for 70 years and are used worldwide. They are considered the gold standard for the restoration of severely damaged deciduous molars. Thanks to their good adaptation and thin layer thickness, the crowns can be used minimally invasively without preparation using the Hall technique. Disadvantages include the color and nickel content of the material. The advantage of this method is the high survival rate. Prefabricated tooth-colored crowns made of composite or ceramic are now available, but these require a much more invasive procedure. Disadvantages include high loss of tooth structure, poor adaptation, high cost, and reduced survival rate. Individually manufactured crowns for deciduous molars are optimized in terms of material and better adapted to the respective deciduous molars; however, significant loss of substance and high costs with little evidence can also be expected. Further development and research is needed for the esthetic replacement of steel crowns.</p>
