DMS ∙ 6: Kariesprävention bei Kindern und Jugendlichen ist wirksam und nachhaltig
摘要
The recently published Sixth German Oral Health Study (DMS ∙ 6) provides a range of data that is highly relevant to paediatric dentistry. As the nationally representative survey is part of a series of similar studies, valid conclusions on oral health trends are also possible. The survey documents a clear long-term decline in caries in the primary dentition of 8- to 9-year-old children. In 12-year-old children, the reduction in caries in the permanent dentition is even more significant and corresponds to a reduction of 90 % compared to the first survey. However, there is still a clear social gradient regarding caries load, which is also clearly noticeable when considering a migration background. At least one tooth with molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) was found in 15.3 % of 12-year-old children. In 5.6 % of the children, MIH findings exceeded opacities. The significant reduction in the caries burden, which has now also been shown in adults for the first time, demonstrates that preventive measures in childhood and adolescence have a long-term effect and are very sustainable.
