<p>Many children and adolescents with disabilities are unable to communicate verbally. This impairment often unsettles the dental team and may prevent patients from receiving adequate treatment. This article reports from a practice specialized in inclusive dentistry on how to communicate with these patients and how to build a relationship of trust. Forms of augmentative and alternative communication are explained with a focus on the use of picture symbols.</p>
