Management der Hypersensitivität bei MIH

Children with the severe form of molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) often experience significant discomfort when the affected teeth are touched or when cold food is ingested. These children also present a challenge in clinical practice, as the affected teeth can hardly be anesthetized locally. With this in mind, an Italian group of authors has evaluated the effectiveness of three different desensitizing treatment protocols. The study was conducted on 39 children aged 6-14 years with MIH and hypersensitivity. Group A received a casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate fluoride (CPP-ACPF) foam with “light therapy”, group B received a placebo foam and photobiomodulation therapy (PMBT), and group C received both CPP-ACPF foam and PMBT. Sensitivity was assessed using a visual analog scale (VAS) and was carried out at several points in time. Both CPP-ACPF and PMBT showed a desensitizing effect in individual cases in the affected teeth. While PMBT had a greater immediate effect, the combination of the two therapies proved to be most effective in reducing hypersensitivity. The authors see the presented procedures as a promising option for dealing with hypersensitivity in MIH teeth.
