Purpose <p>Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a condition that needs to be managed well, including dietary intake, to arrest progression and enhance quality of life. Protein sources from animals are restricted in CKD diets because of high phosphorus and saturated fat content; therefore, vegan meat is a potential protein source. This review aims to discuss the role of vegan meat in the dietary treatment of CKD concerning nutritional composition, health effects, and patients’ perspectives.</p> Methods <p>This review explores the current literature on the nutritional profile of vegan meat, its effects, and its pros and cons in CKD patients, along with its effect on health. It entails a comparison of various vegan meat products and their compatibility with the CKD diet.</p> Results <p>Soy, wheat, and pea protein-based vegan meat products have a lower ratio of Phosphorus to protein, less saturated fats, and no cholesterol as compared to animal meat. These characteristics are quite suitable for CKD dietary prescriptions. Research shows that vegan diets could lower the prevalence of comorbid conditions like cardiovascular disease in CKD patients. Also, the patient acceptance and sensory characteristics of vegan meat are positive, implying that such products can be incorporated into CKD diets.</p> Conclusion <p>Vegan meat can be considered a good protein substitute for CKD patients as it has nutritional and health advantages. Nevertheless, the absence of long-term studies on the effects of diets in patients with CKD and the lack of extensive research on the health consequences of consuming specific foods point to the need for more research to determine safe dietary recommendations for patients with CKD.</p>
