<p>India is a land of diversity in its flora and is ranked second in area (10.86 million ha) and production (200.45 million tonnes) of vegetables in the world. This review aims to highlight the medicinal importance of various plant species very frequently used to prepare vegetables in Indian homes. The documentation of various vegetable recipes from different sources was conducted in 2022–2023.The authors own traditional knowledge (RAJ) helped to frame the data initially, thereafter the medicinal usage of the plants was documented. The extensive survey resulted in selection of only 156 plant species used as vegetables but also are medicinally acclaimed globally for the treatment of various ailments from toothache to HIV. The balanced diet in food includes vegetables is well known fact but can also be curative is very less known. There is very scanty information about direct use of vegetable to cure a disease however are used as in soup or salad form during the treatment of disease for better health. In this study it was found that some of the species were not only used for preparation of vegetables but were also used to prepare other different food items including pickle, soup, salad, fritters, jams, sweets etc. The traditional usage of these plant species is largely dependent upon the local information available as is passed from generations to generations. Documentation of these plant species along with their medicinal usage will help to encourage the people to use them more in their daily meals and thus can attain a healthy life. This review is an interesting attempt to highlight the medicinal usage of few vegetables commonly used in Indian homes.</p>
