Objective

To describe the structure and functioning of the Surgery Outcomes Research Team (SORT) and its impact on research productivity and academic development.

Design

Overview of the SORT model, including recruitment, meeting structure, project tracking, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Setting

University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine, Tampa, FL.

Results

Since its inception in 2020, SORT has produced 69 manuscripts and presented hundreds of abstracts at regional and national conferences. The collaborative model has enhanced research skills and facilitated successful residency matches.

Conclusions

SORT’s interdisciplinary approach fosters research productivity and academic growth, advancing surgical outcomes and patient care.
