<p>Although the percentage of women in medicine has increased over time, significant gender disparities persist in the field of anesthesiology, particularly in leadership positions. Bibliometric analyses of anesthesiology and intensive care medicine show a&#xa0;moderate increase in women authorships followed by a&#xa0;recent stagnation, resulting in a&#xa0;persistent underrepresentation of women, particularly among senior authors. This article summarizes the status quo, outlines key causes, and discusses evidence-based measures to promote gender equity and diversity in the field of anesthesiology.</p>
