摘要

Post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) comprises physical, cognitive or psychological impairments that emerge or worsen after an intensive care stay. These long-term sequelae challenge the daily lives of patients and their families, but also the healthcare system. Structured follow-up by multidisciplinary teams through specialised outpatient clinics or specific rehabilitation programmes improves the quality of life of those affected. Austria does not yet have a comprehensive aftercare programm for former intensive care patients and their families. This article intends to raise awareness and outline the benefits of structured, hospital-based follow-up.
