Oral infectious diseases are an alarming global health concern requiring creative management and treatment approaches. Recent developments in drug delivery systems crafted to alleviate these obstacles are brought to light in the abstract. Researching and employing cutting-edge drug delivery systems such as hydrogels, liposomes, nanoparticles, and mucoadhesive patches constitutes substantial advancements. With fewer systemic adverse effects and increased efficacy, these platforms provide targeted and sustained release of antimicrobial medicines. Additionally, developments in nanotechnology have made it easier to create smart materials that can interact with specific oral conditions, augmenting the delivery of medications. In addition, incorporating bioactive compounds and antimicrobial peptides into drug delivery systems has potential in the fight against antibiotic-resistant bacteria and is frequently linked to oral infections. Moreover, personalized medicine approaches can potentially improve therapeutic outcomes by tailoring therapies to the specific requirements of every person receiving treatment. These developments herald a bright future in the fight against infectious diseases of the mouth, providing novel opportunities to enhance treatment results, patient compliance, and treatment efficacy.
