Green Synthesis of Calcium Oxide Nanoparticles Using Mango (Mangifera Indica) Leaf Extract: A Sustainable Approach for Enhanced Antimicrobial Applications

This study investigated the synthesis and antibacterial properties of calcium oxide nanoparticles (CaO NPs) derived from mango (Mangifera indica) leaf extract, offering a green approach for nanoparticle production. The CaO NPs were characterized using dynamic light scattering (DLS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). DLS analysis revealed an average particle size of 61.47 nm, while FTIR identified key functional groups involved in the synthesis. EDX confirmed calcium incorporation, and SEM imaging revealed irregular nanoparticle shapes with some agglomeration. Antibacterial testing against Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus demonstrated concentration-dependent inhibition, with minimum inhibitory concentrations of 0.6 and 0.3 mg/ml, respectively. The study highlights the potential of mango leaf extract-derived CaO NPs as effective antibacterial agents, offering a promising approach for medical applications in the fight against bacterial infections.
