Background <p>There is insufficient data regarding Iraqi patients’ perceptions of root canal treatment (RCT) in the Iraqi citizen. Thus, it is essential to understand and identify the factors that prevent or discourage patients from undergoing endodontic treatment in order to effectively address the issue.</p> Aim <p>To assess the perceptions, attitudes, and knowledge of patients in an Iraqi sub-population regarding endodontic treatment.</p> Material <p>The study was performed on the outpatient at Operative dentistry and Endodontics Department in Dental College hospital. After obtaining their informed consent, a pre-structured questionnaire was filled by 450 random outpatients that were consisting of 15 questions. The completed questionnaires were collected, reviewed, and analyzed using descriptive statistical methods.</p> Results <p>There was adequate information about the endodontic&#xa0;treatment, and most of the patients finished their treatment within 1–3 visits; the majority of patients think that root canal treatment is indicated when there is pain associated with the teeth—also, self-medication is used by the majority of the patient.</p> Conclusion <p>Majority of the participants had undergone RCT procedure and had not experienced pain in over 6&#xa0;months, however there is lack of awareness regarding RCT procedure.</p>

Background

Aim

To assess the perceptions, attitudes, and knowledge of patients in an Iraqi sub-population regarding endodontic treatment.

Material
