Performance evaluation of sustainable self compaction concrete using Dolomite Powder and Fly Ash in M40 and M60 grades
摘要
The increasing need to use sustainable construction materials has also seen the experimenting of additional cementitious materials with an aim of cutting down the impact on the environment of the conventional concrete. The paper explores the fresh, mechanical and durable behavior of M40 and M60 grade High volume Flyash Concrete (HVFAC) in the presence of Dolomite Powder (DP) as partial substitutes of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). The constant supplementary material was FA, with DP being varied with the replacement levels in order to determine its effect on strength characteristics. An elaborate experimental study was conducted in order to determine the compressive strength and split tensile strength at various curing ages. The results show that the addition of FA and DP has a great influence on the development of the strength in concrete. It was noted that the best proportion of the DP was to be used in increasing compressive and tensile strengths because of its fineness. But increased levels of replacement caused a slight decrease in strength. The behavior of M60 grade concrete was more sensitive to dolomite variation than M40 grade. As a whole, the paper proves that FA and DP can be used together to create sustainable HVFAC with good mechanical performance and at a lower consumption of cement. The results offer precious information on how to optimize the percentage of DP to achieve eco-friendly and long-lasting concrete mix that can be used in the modern construction industry.
