Utilization of waste marble slurry and recycled coarse aggregate for sustainable concrete production

The disposal of solid waste is a global issue. These materials contribute to environmental contamination and it is associated issues if improperly disposed of. Around the world, several investigations are conducted on the disposal of these solid waste products by substituting them entirely or partially for aggregates in cement concrete. In this study, the research objectives are to examine fresh, mechanical, and durability characteristics of concretes manufactured with 10%, 20% and 30% waste marble slurry as a replacement for cement and 10%, 20% and 30% recycled coarse aggregate as a replacement for coarse natural aggregate. The outcomes displayed that the utilization of waste materials provided some lower fresh characteristics than an ordinary mixture. The 28-day compressive, flexural, and split tensile strength has reduced for waste marble slurry (WMS) and recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) added blends. Studies assessing other properties, i.e., water absorption, pull off and alkalinity, improved performances up to 10% replacement compared to control mixtures. Ecological and economic studies indicate that concrete blends with WMS and RCA are cost-effective and have fewer CO2 emissions and embodied energy.
