Artificial intelligence, moral imagination, and intergenerational justice in sustainable education

This study examines the different perceptions between students and lecturers in artificial intelligence (AI) usage, how AI would be reflected on future generation (FG) mediated by sustainable development (SD), testing role of ethics and justice as moderators between AI and SD. Current AI revolution threaten the FG in education by higher plagiarism, losing critical skills, inequitable access, bias and discrimination, data privacy, misinformation and reliability issues. Quantitative method employed and survey distributed amongst two explored perceptions students and lecturers. A sample size of 582 response had been collected and analysed via SPSS & AMOS. Students data resulted as there is a significant direct impact of AI on FG, a significant mediating role of SD on the relationship between AI and FG, AI and SD found insignificantly moderated by ethics and justice. Lecturers data reported significant effect of AI on FG with a significant mediation of SD on relationship between AI and FG, differently only Ethics and justice were significantly moderating AI and SD. Thus, education sector recommended to enrich the awareness of students about ethical frame and highlight critical importance, standard, policy and governance of AI usage toward SD and FG.
