Green hydrogen development in Iran: a SWOT analysis of challenges and opportunities focusing on renewable energy resources
摘要
This paper investigates the development of hydrogen production technologies in Iran, focusing on the green hydrogen produced from renewable energy resources Green hydrogen is produced through the electrolysis of water with renewable energy sources (RES). A comprehensive SWOT analysis identified Iran's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in its transition towards hydrogen energy. This study expands the traditional SWOT framework by including an in-depth discussion of technological advancements and policy recommendations tailored to the Iranian context. The analysis highlights Iran's abundant solar energy potential and existing energy infrastructure as key strengths. However, significant regulatory gaps, economic challenges associated with the high capital costs of advanced electrolyzers, and technological limitations in hydrogen storage hinder progress. The research underscores the global market potential for hydrogen exports and emphasizes the need for targeted policy interventions to cultivate a sustainable hydrogen economy.
