Repurposing of Fibre Straws, Plywood Pieces, Fabric Swatches, and Beads for the Development of Sustainable Educational Materials

Fast fashion's growth and unsustainable production methods have made the environmental impact of textiles and other industrial waste a serious concern. This study investigates the creative repurposing of fibre straws, leftover plywood, fabric swatches, and beads to produce eco-friendly teaching resources (storage bags and tactile alphabets). The study promotes environmentally friendly practices in educational environments with limited resources by using locally sourced biodegradable materials. To create aesthetically pleasing and long-lasting tools, the materials underwent a transformation process that included traditional weaving and crafting techniques. The complementary qualities of the fabric swatches and straws were shown by statistical, mechanical, and physical analyses, underscoring their potential for a variety of uses. In line with the tenets of UNESCO's Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) framework, the created products increase learners' sensory engagement, encourage creativity, and encourage environmental responsibility. The global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 (Quality Education), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 13 (Climate Action) are all greatly aided by this work. This study highlights the ecological and socioeconomic potential of waste repurposing by incorporating sustainability into educational design. The results provide a guide for cutting waste and fostering environmental awareness in future generations, and support a wider adoption of creative, sustainable approaches in the creation of educational materials.
