<p>In order to achieve sustainability and the transition to a circular economy, a number of international agreements have been made, such as the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or the European Union's Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP). The introduction of these into the legislation of the countries concerned poses a major challenge for the waste management of countries, and more specifically for the change of this system. The subject of the research is compost produced from biowaste.The analyses use both secondary and primary data. In the former, the study presents the compost time series of the countries covered by Eurostat, while in the latter it focuses on a Hungarian university where the Faculty of Engineering's wide-ranging research activities include the development of compost. The research presents the characteristics of the compost produced at the Faculty of Engineering and the results of a short questionnaire survey on the demand (either for free or for money) of the university community for compost produced at the university.</p>
