There is an emerging international consensus that the UK’s efforts to redress modern slavery within its own borders are not as exemplary as has been claimed, begging the question as to how valid its claim also to be ‘leading the world’ on this new agenda is. This collection of articles reveals the frequently mixed, muddled, and sometimes malign influence British social policy has had on other countries it has advised to follow its lead, as well as the prospects for something more progressive to emerge from the tensions the modern slavery agenda engenders.
