<p>This comparative study between New Zealand and India was designed to explore applicants’ perceptions of the AI-based hiring process. Some research explored different aspects of AI-based hiring processes, however, job applicants’ experiences and perceptions, specifically in culturally distinct contexts, were under-investigated. Recognising the differences between New Zealand and India in terms of technological adoption rates and cultural backgrounds, this study addresses this gap by comparing applicant perspectives on AI-based hiring processes. This study undertook a survey to gather primary data using a questionnaire to collect data from targeted populations. The findings of this study suggest that the use of AI tools in recruitment is efficient and enhances the recruitment process. Participants also believe that AI-based hiring enhances the candidate selection process, and many respondents believe that AI tools can reduce bias. Interestingly, applicants from New Zealand expressed a stronger belief than Indian applicants that AI could effectively reduce bias in the process. This study provides insights into the implications of AI-driven recruitment processes and recommends that organisations specifically focus on their approaches in local contexts to optimise candidate experience. This cross-cultural comparison provides an in-depth understanding of the perception and adoption of AI-based hiring processes. Additionally, this study contributes to further understanding of AI’s global impact and possible challenges in diverse global markets. However, it is important to note that this is an emerging field, and scenarios change all the time, so continuous research is needed.</p>
