摘要

This study examines the impact of community participation on community policing in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, while considering the mediating effect of community-police partnerships. Using a mixed-method approach, it integrates quantitative surveys and qualitative case studies to assess how active engagement influences policing practices. The research covers three districts, Arada, Addis Ketema, and Kirkos, selected based on crime rates, with a sample of 328 respondents randomized from six wards. Findings indicate that increased community involvement significantly enhances policing effectiveness and fosters stronger partnerships. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) supports that these partnerships mediate the relationship between participation and improved policing practices. The study emphasizes the necessity of active engagement and trust-building between communities and law enforcement for sustainable security improvements. Policy recommendations advocate for Ethiopian law enforcement agencies to prioritize community participation and collaborative efforts to enhance policing efficiency and social integration in urban settings.
