Profiling the academic workforce in occupational health and safety education: evidence from university bachelor’s degree and vocational programs
摘要
This study comprehensively examines the structural dynamics of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) education in Türkiye and the profile of the academic workforce. The findings indicate a concentration of associate degree programs in OHS, a majority of academic staff coming from non-OHS backgrounds, and a critically low number of OHS-originated academics in senior positions. Moreover, although scientific output is quantitatively significant, it exhibits a weak profile in terms of academic identity and originality. The study highlights the strengths of the multidisciplinary structure while emphasizing the need to strengthen bachelor’s degree and graduate programs, support academic staff through certified training, and enhance national and international publication capacity for OHS. Additionally, it recommends removing structural barriers in the promotion process for OHS PhD holders and recognizing OHS as an independent scientific discipline.
