<p>The uncritical embrace of efficiency and technological determinism has profound implications for contemporary society. Drawing on Frederick Winslow Taylor’s principles of scientific management and Jacques Ellul’s critique of the “autonomy of technique,” this paper examines the continued dominance of technocratic paradigms in shaping modern governance and decision-making. The discussion extends to Neil Postman’s concept of technopoly, highlighting how technology subsumes cultural values and uses 21st-century examples—such as algorithmic bias, smart cities, and workplace automation—to underscore the risks of this trend. The paper concludes by proposing strategies for fostering humane, inclusive futures through ethical governance, participatory design, and interdisciplinary education.</p>
