Livelihood vulnerability and diversification among cotton growers in Ahmednagar, semi-arid region of Maharashtra, India
摘要
This study examines livelihood threats and diversification strategies of cotton farmers in the semi-arid region of Maharashtra, India. The aim of the research is to assess the socio-economic conditions of cotton farmers and identify opportunities to improve their livelihood resilience. Through a comprehensive survey and analysis, the study shows that cotton farmers in the region are at significant risk due to weak social network components and limited off-farm income-generating activities. The findings highlight the need for policy interventions to promote self-help groups, group farming and alternative livelihood options such as animal husbandry and sericulture. By strengthening social networks and diversifying income sources, policymakers and stakeholders can improve the livelihoods of cotton farmers in the region, thereby contributing to sustainable rural development.
