<p><i>Quercus leucotrichophora</i> commonly known as Ban oak is a multipurpose tree, native to the Himalaya having huge ecological and economical significance. Continued overuse for forage and fuel purposes has led to rapid decline of its natural habitat. Therefore, this study assesses the population status, regeneration pattern, and habitat suitability of <i>Q. leucotrichophora</i> in the temperate forest ecosystems of the Himalayan state Himachal Pradesh. Total 276 species (Trees: 32; Shrubs: 51 and Herbs: 193) belonging to 227 Genera and 80 Families were recorded from 100 sampling sites. The density of <i>Q. leucotrichophora</i> ranged between 90–710 Ind ha<sup>−1</sup>, while the Total Basal Area ranged from 8.61–95.55 m<sup>2</sup>&#xa0;ha<sup>−1</sup>. The habitat suitability model indicated that 9.22% geographical area of Himachal Pradesh is suitable for the reintroduction of species, while 28.63% area is favourable for the existence of <i>Q. leucotrichophora</i>. Our findings suggested increase in suitable habitat of the species due to climate change under SSP245, SSP370 and SSP585 scenarios. This study identified factors that define environmentally suitable areas for the occurrence of <i>Q. leucotrichophora</i>, representing the first distribution model for the Himachal Pradesh. These findings will provide valuable insights to the policymakers for safeguard this remarkable species.</p>
