Reservoir approach, Bose’s derivation, and Einstein’s rate equation approximation

Since the reservoir approach is recognised as the foundation of laser theory, it is imperative to establish a correlation between it and the electromagnetic radiation formula derivations of different scientists. In this paper, we contrast the approaches used to develop Plank’s black body radiation formula by S. N. Bose, A. Einstein, W. E. Lamb Jr., and their associates. Photons have been used to characterise light ever since Plank’s quantum interpretation of black body radiation, the discovery of the photoelectric phenomenon, and Einstein’s interpretation. Bose’s methodology produced Bose statistics and the theory of Bose–Einstein condensation, whereas Einstein’s method produced lasers. Both methods are used in the reservoir approach to quantum theory of lasers, which has applications in photon statistics.
