Performance analysis of solar desalination system with thermal storage material at various water depths
摘要
The availability of reliable sources of potable water is a challenge for most people around the world. Solar desalination is an economic and sustainable technology for potable water production, as it uses abundantly available solar energy. However, the performance of solar stills is yet to match with existing conventional desalination techniques. The current study focuses on experimental investigation and performance improvement of solar desalination system with thermal storage material (pebbles) at different basin water depth varying from 0.5 cm to 2.5 cm. The solar desalination unit having a basin area of 3600 cm2 is used for this research work. The thickness of tilted glass cover is 4 mm, making an angle of 20° with the horizontal surface. The highest productivity is obtained at 1.5 cm water depth with pebbles. Economic analysis has also been conducted for service lives of 15, 20 and 25 years.
