Late quaternary evolution of the Himalaya and its foreland: recent research contributions

The work provides a review of literature in SCI journals on the late Quaternary evolution of Himalaya and its foreland published during 2019–2023. Around 125 articles that are pulished on the subject highlight (i) role of basement tectonics on stratigraphy and seismicity of Ganga foreland (ii) how fluvial aggradation and incision and formation of terraces can inform on neotectonic evolution of Himalaya (iii) past and present records of extreme hydrological events and mitigation (iv) soil quality and agricultural practices (v) long term stratigraphic records of ganga foreland using sedimentology and pedomorphology (iv) paleoclimate, paleoglaciation and Anthropocene. We classified the total publications with respect to Geomorphology, sedimentology, palaeoclimate, neotectonics, liquefaction, Groundwater and floods, soils and agriculture and geochemistry.
