摘要

Earth System Science Organization-Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (ESSO-INCOIS), Hyderabad is an autonomous institute under the administrative control of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India with a mandate to provide the best possible ocean information and advisory services to society, industry, government agencies and the scientific community through sustained ocean observations and constant improvements through systematic and focused research. Advisories on Potential Fishing Zones based on the satellite derived sea surface temperature and chlorophyll concentration data and the Ocean State Forecasts based on the data assimilated numerical models are the two important flagship services of ESSO-INCOIS. ESSO-INCOIS also hosts the Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC), which is a Regional Tsunami Service Provider responsible for issuing Tsunami early warnings for the Indian Ocean Rim Countries and the International Training Centre for Operational Oceanography (ITCOocean), which is a Category-2-Centre of UNESCO for capacity building in operational oceanography and allied subjects. The services of ESSO-INCOIS are supported by numerical ocean modelling, data assimilation and ocean observations. ESSO-INCOIS also serves as the National Oceanographic Data Centre. Computational, communication and network infrastructure required for successful generation and dissemination of services is the backbone of ESSO-INCOIS services. The operational services of ESSO-INCOIS is founded on focused research in ocean sciences. Major advancements in each activities of ESSO-INCOIS in the past 4 years (2020–2023) are given in this article.
