<p>To be successful readers in elementary school and beyond, children need to develop social and early literacy skills that prepare them for learning in kindergarten. This contribution to the Special Issue describes a 30-year research program by investigators at the Juniper Gardens Children's Project (JGCP) aimed at improving kindergarten readiness. Collaborating with community early education programs, the researchers created tools to identify key behaviors and literacy skills essential for kindergarten preparation. These findings were integrated into assessments, interventions, teacher training, and other resources designed to help children succeed in school. The article also explores the future of these tools and emphasizes the need to scale them up for broader impact.</p>
