Biomedical Composites for Orthopaedics Health: Innovations, Sustainable Framework and Policy Interventions
摘要
Biomedical composites are valuable for orthopaedic in joint replacement, sports medicine, spine care and paediatrics bone care. It is essential to map technological trend in any field based on patent analysis which provide current market potential and innovation gap in a field. The present article has covered ten major categories of biomedical composites for their patent analysis.
MethodsThe patent data were retrieved from Patentscope, a patent database from World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Geneva. The patent data was filtered through international patent classification code A61 which classify patent for medical or veterinary science, which resulted into 3,378 on biomedical composites starting from 1972.Following to that, this article mapped biomedical composites with 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on a scale of 1 to 10 (lowest to highest).
ResultsThere was patent publication from 1991-2000 with 297 records, which was rise in 2001-10 (798 records), in 2010-20 (1051 records), and exponentially rise in just fi ve years of 2021-25 (1148). This shown the market attention and importance towards patent on biomedical composites. Further, this article have elaborated recent 82 patents on various biomedical composites. Based on relevance score, biomedical composites largely aligned to SDG-3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG-9 (Industry Innovation and Infrastructure). At last, policy intervention comprehended on ten points for capacity building.
ConclusionsIn nutshell, this article covered innovative trend on ten major categories of biomedical composites, mapped 17 UN SDGs on scale of 1-10, and derived the policy intervention to attain SDGs on higher scale.
