<p><i>Nigella sativa</i> L. belongs to the Ranunculaceae family and has a long history of medicinal use worldwide. Several studies have shown the pharmacological activities of <i>N. sativa</i> including, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptosis, antimicrobial, and anti-oxidative effects. Ocular diseases affect the sense of vision and can lead to loss of visual acuity and blindness. This review aims to discuss the protective effect of <i>N. sativa</i> and its main constituent, thymoquinone, in ocular diseases and the mechanisms underlying these protective effects. Available evidence supports the therapeutic effects of <i>N. sativa</i> and thymoquinone in ocular diseases, <i>e.g</i>., in age-related macular degeneration, allergic conjunctivitis, dry eye, glaucoma, and cataracts. Future studies should confirm and extend the evidence of <i>N. sativa</i>’s efficacy in clinical practice against ocular diseases.</p> Graphical Abstract <p></p>
