<p>Hybridization between bird species is a phenomenon that has been widely documented in scientific literature. However, this study presents the first record of free-living hybridization between the species <i>Columbina picui</i> and <i>Columbina talpacoti</i>. The case occurred in the municipality of Itapetim, Pernambuco, Brazil, at a site on the edge of town, near the Pajeú River, with well-wooded surroundings and just a few meters from the countryside. We observed a variety of behaviors from both the parental taxa and the juvenile individual, as well as analyzing the pteryla graphic characteristics of the hybrid. Although the occurrence of hybrids in the Columbidae family has been previously described, this case represents the first record of hybridization between species of the <i>Columbina</i> genus. The relevance of this study stands out, since the description of hybrids contributes significantly to various branches of science, such as knowledge of evolutionary processes, through the emergence of reproductively isolated hybrid species, as well as the genetic diversity that these individuals can provide.</p>
